Soloman enlisted in the Confederate Army on May 30, 1861, in Rockingham N.C.
He was wounded at Malvern Hill in Va. in 1862. The nature of his wound is unknown, but his quick recovery was evident in a letter back home. He wrote"The Yankees are advancing toward Richmond. They say they will have Richmond or Hell is their home and I fear Hell will be their home before they get it. God grant them a better place, for it will be bad for them to miss Richmond and get Hell."
