Soloman Mclean
23rd. N.C.T. Co. D
Soloman enlisted in the Confederate Army on May 30, 1861, in Rockingham N.C.
He was wounded at Malvern Hill in Va. in 1862. The nature of his wound is unknown, but his quick recovery
was evident in a letter back home. He wrote"The Yankees are advancing toward Richmond. They say they will have Richmond
or Hell is their home and I fear Hell will be their home before they get it. God grant them a better place, for it will be
bad for them to miss Richmond and get Hell."
He was wounded again at the Battle of Winchester Sept. 19, 1864.
His brother Hugh Mclean was also in Co. D. He was wounded at the Battle of Chancellorsville
on May 3, 1863. He returned for active duty and was wounded and captured at Gettysburg.on July 1, 1863.
He was taken prisoner and confined at Fort Delaware, where he was transferred to Point Lookout Md.There
he died on Jan 13, 1864.
